The Town of Tuxedo is on the cusp of extraordinary growth. With the recently approved Tuxedo Reserve project, our population is expected to double over the next 5–10 years a transformation that demands vision, preparation, and action.
A Vision Rooted in the Comprehensive Plan
Our 2003 Comprehensive Plan, reaffirmed in 2018, set the foundation for balanced growth encouraging economic and residential development while protecting the quality of life that makes Tuxedo so special. It remains a vital roadmap for our town’s future.
Revitalizing Our Downtown
Like many small towns in New York, Tuxedo has seen its Main Street decline over the years. Once the beating heart of suburban life, local shops have shuttered as big box stores and malls drew customers away.
But now, with New York State’s renewed focus on revitalizing Main Streets and suburban downtowns, Tuxedo has an incredible opportunity. We will capitalize on the many State and Local grant opportunities available to revitalize the Hamlet with beautification plans, pedestrian and bicycle friendly streets and economic development programs.
With funding from the Tuxedo Reserve for recreational investment, we will create a premier municipal park and recreation center at Powerhouse Park, and finally create a Riverwalk along the Ramapo River that connects from the Tuxedo Train Station, and the Harriman Hiking Trails.
Building a Connected, Beautiful, and Thriving Town
Our revitalization plans include:
- Street beautification and pedestrian walkways for safer, more walkable neighborhoods
- Expanded municipal parking to support new retail and commercial spaces
- Enhanced recreation programs and Powerhouse Park recreation center and Ramapo Riverwalk
- A robust grant program to secure additional funding for community improvements
Tuxedo is already a beautiful place to live, now it’s time to make it a vibrant place to eat, shop, and stay.
With over one million visitors each year and new homes under construction, Tuxedo is perfectly positioned for an economic resurgence in the Hamlet and the Route 17 corridor, including Southfields.
